SCS received confirmation about a positive COVID-19 test result at SMS. SCS is following the guidance from the Washington County Health Department and the CDC.
Students and staff who have had close contact to a positive case are contacted separately about the next steps. Close contact is defined as contact within three feet for 15 minutes or more unmasked. Close contacts who have proof of vaccination on file with the school nurse will not have to quarantine, but should monitor for symptoms. Any spaces that a positive case comes in contact with have been sanitized and disinfected.
A message will be sent to all families when a positive confirmation impacts our school.
SHS will have pictures this Friday. Please watch the video on the new paperless procedures to order.

Parents, this is SCS. We wanted to reach out and let you know the busses are running behind. Please be patient and understand your child will be home later than usual if riding a bus.
Good afternoon Salem Families!
This is Salem Community Schools with an important message. We first want to welcome everyone back to school. Classes begin on Thursday, August 5th. Secondly, we wanted to share that Salem Community Schools will be recommending (not mandating) all students and staff to wear masks at this time due to the rise in Covid. The guidance SCS has received from the State Health Department is that anyone who comes in contact with a positive case of Covid will have to quarantine unless the individual is vaccinated or the individual was wearing a mask correctly and was at least 3 feet apart. Those who are vaccinated will not have to quarantine as long as they remain symptom free. Vaccines will be available from the LifeSpring Clinic at Bradie Shrum Elementary School once school begins. Also, any student or staff member who is in contact with a positive case and would like to get tested for Covid, then the individual can be tested at the LifeSpring Clinic at BSE. Thank you and have a great day!

INFORMATION CONCERNING TRAFFIC PLAN FOR SHS
________________________________________
July 28, 2021
Temporary Traffic Plan to Start School
2021-22
There will be several changes to the traffic plan with the construction on Shelby Street by the City of Salem and the Safe Room Construction at Salem High School. The following suggestions will be made for student drivers, parent transportation and bus transportation as we prepare to start a new school year. Please be patient with the congestion. All bus riders will be required to wear a mask.
AM
Student drivers should plan to allow extra time because of traffic. All student drivers must enter the school parking lots from Harrison Street. The parking lot between the school and hospital will allow students access to the West side of the building. Student drivers will need a parking permit and park in their designated spot. Students will enter through Door 9 (Cafe) or Door 1 (Main Entrance). Please be aware of moving vehicles and use the sidewalks. Please arrive between 7:45 - 8:10 AM.
Parent Transportation (dropping off students) should use Harrison Street and drop the students off at the crosswalks on Harrison Street. Students are reminded to cross the street at the crosswalks. Please be aware of buses and student pedestrians. The students should use Door 1 (Main Entrance) to enter the building. Please arrive between 7:45 - 8:10 AM.
Bus Transportation will drop all bus riders at the crosswalk in front of Door 1 (Main Entrance). Students are reminded to use the crosswalks. The buses arrive between 7:20 - 8:00 AM.
Students will be expected to pick up their breakfast in the cafe (optional), go to their locker if needed and go directly to class beginning at 7:45 each day. Please help us keep the hallways clear in the morning following safety guidelines.
PM
Buses will be parked on Harrison Street with all traffic stopped/blocked in front of the High School from 3:15 until buses depart. The buses will depart the High School after everyone has been safely loaded on the bus.
After the buses depart, the student drivers will be able to leave the parking lots with access on Harrison Street . This change is because of the no access to Shelby Street. Please be patient in the dismissal process and expect delays. The student drivers will be able to move around 3:30 - 3:35 PM.
Parent Transportation will need to delay pick up until after 3:40 PM. The students will be available to exit Door 1 and meet their ride. The parking lots and Harrison Street will be a very congested area. Thanks for your cooperation and assistance.
Every Wednesday, the dismissal plan will be adjusted 1 hour earlier. This will begin on August 11th.
