Eleven cast members, two sound and light technicians and four stage crew members will present the spring drama production in March.
The play will be held at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center at Salem Middle School on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and March 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6.
The spring production is “The Curious Savage,” written by John Patrick. “The Curious Savage” is a story about Mrs. Savage's step children who have her placed in a sanatorium in order to get their hands on the $10 million dollars her husband left her. The quirky residents of the sanatorium quickly become Mrs. Savage's new family.
SHS English teacher Mark Carter will direct the play and said the story is a comedy and is “found to be funny, but a touching play that has a good message about greediness, kindness and acceptance.
“I felt like I had the perfect students to cast in the roles,” he said.
Senior Carolyn Casey is playing Mrs. Savage, the main character. Residents of the sanatorium include: Florence, played by Elaine Houchin; Hannibal, played by senior Brayden Hawn; Fairy May, played by Natalee Wells; Jeffrey, played by sophomore Finn Kritzer; Mrs. Paddy, played by senior Raewyn Perry. Other characters are: Titus, Mrs. Savage's stepson, a senator, will be played by senior Shawn Gibbs; Samuel, Mrs. Savage's stepson, a judge, will be played by freshman Graham Houchin; Lilly Belle, Mrs. Savage's stepdaughter, a socialite, will be played by sophomore Flora Wade; Miss Wilhelmina, a nurse at the sanatorium, will be played by freshman Mckenna Miller; Dr. Emmett, a doctor at the sanatorium, will be played by senior Emily Setser.
Students in John Calhoun’s manufacturing class built the sets for the play.
