Hildenbrand leading the band at camp

Name: Brittany Hildenbrand

Position: Director of Bands

Where are you from? Evansville, IN

What are you looking forward to in your new job? I’m really looking forward to working with the students and playing a large variety of music.

Have you met with the band yet? What were your first impressions? I have met with the band! I first met a few of our members at the county fair and they were so ecstatic! I could tell they were a very close knit group, who seemed ready to try new things!

What challenges do you foresee with your new role? I foresee challenges in logistics, so knowing how to schedule/plan trips and being able to juggle as many ensembles as I’m wanting to have.

What drew you to Salem? To be honest, when you’re a band director with less experience you apply for everything. I previously worked at Mater Dei HS with Allison Field (an alumni of Salem) who used to talk of such great memories of her time there. When I saw the job posted I knew that I had to apply!

What is something you don't think non-band people know or appreciate about band members? I don’t personally believe that most non-band people realize how much time and effort goes into the smallest moments in music.

What would you like people to know about you? I would like people to know that I’m always available to talk. I’m approachable and will always listen. I believe firmly in wanting students to have many opportunities! I’m willing to share time with different sports/teams and strive for a welcoming atmosphere within the band. Everyone is welcome regardless of race/gender/sexuality etc.
