SMS Back in Session 5/24/2017
   
 

Salem Middle School will be back in session for a normal day tomorrow - May 24. Our air quality test came back passing. Thank you so much for your patience! There is a document posted on facebook and our website with Frequently Asked Questions about how this will affect S M S students. Please take a look and call us with questions. Thank you!




Students Needing to Ride a Different Bus

1. Bring a signed note from their parents with the following information:

  • Student Name
  • Bus Number to Ride
  • Address of Drop Off
  • Parent Signature

2.  Students should bring this note to the office, who will then issue a permission slip to ride the bus.

3.  The student will give this permission slip from the office to the bus driver.

Students who do not have this permission slip will be denied the privilege to ride the bus.

SMS Closed on Tuesday, 5/23
   
 

We are very sorry to report that Middle School students and staff will not be attending school tomorrow.  Due to a delay in receiving our air quality clearance report, school will be cancelled for Middle School students for May 23.  News reports are incorrect. Currently the news is saying we are in session, but this is no longer true.  We are putting your child’s health and safety first.  Hopefully we will be back on Wednesday.  We will keep you updated.





Emergency School Board Meeting 5/21
   
 

Tomorrow, May 21st, the SCS Board of School Trustees will hold an emergency meeting to address flood damage at SMS.

Salem Middle School will be closed on Monday, May 22nd.

We will keep everyone updated as we know more. Please be patient with us as work to gather all the information and details needed to make decisions as quickly as possible. Please watch our facebook, twitter, and website for more info.

 Now is the time to file the FAFSA

(financial aid for college)!

SHS Financial Aid Workshop

When:  Tuesday November 1 at 7:00 pm.    Parents and seniors are encouraged to attend this session

Where:  Salem High School Presentation Room

What:  Information concerning the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and scholarship and grant information for college.

             Information will be presented by a college financial aid officer.  All seniors should complete the FAFSA for financial aid, work study, and/or student loans.  Students that are 21st Century Scholars are required to complete this form.

Taste of Salem
   
 

 The Taste of Salem is November 3 at 7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) at Cornerstone Hall.  It is a fun evening and tickets sell out quickly.  Restaurants, businesses, and individuals from the area donate food and silent auction items.  100% of the proceeds go to the scholarship fund for Salem High School Seniors.  The Salem Education Foundation and Washington County Community Foundation award just under $100,000 in scholarships each year to the SHS graduating class.  Groups of 8 may request their own table, but all tickets must be purchased together in order to reserve a table.  Tickets for the Taste of Salem are $20 and are on sale now at Mid-Southern Savings Bank, Loy & Fordyce and Salem Apothecary.  





ISTEP Rescore Window Extended
   
 

 From the Indiana DOE:

The Rescore window for the ISTEP for grades 3-8 ((2015-2016 school year) has been extended because of technological difficulties with the Pearson site.

Lion Kickoff
   
 

Class of 2020...don't forget that Lion Kickoff is on Wednesday, July 27 at 3 pm.  Register in the main lobby.  Students will get their schedules and locker assignments.  School pictures will be taken.  There will be free pizza for students.  Come see all your friends and get ready for your freshman year.  There is a parent meeting at 5:30.  Book rental and lunch account payments can be made during this evening as well. Contact Mrs. Mahuron (812.883.3904/cmahuron@salemschools.com) if you have questions.

 SHS parents:  Please do not park in the hospital parking lot in the afternoon.  Several hospital employees end their workday at 3:30PM and are having difficulty exiting the lot due to parents waiting to pick up students .  Feel free to use the empty parking spaces behind the superintendent's office.  Thank you.

A company claiming to be the College Board is calling students in our area trying to sell SAT prep materials.  They are requesting $125.  DO NOT give this company your credit card information or buy services from them.  This is a scam.  Contact Jennifer Martin (812.883.3904) if you have questions.
