Mission Statement:

Designing Quality Work for Students and Leading Them to Success

Our Vision for School Improvement/Standard Bearer School District

The school board, administration and staff of Salem Community Schools are committed to improving the educational opportunities for the youth of our community.  While we are proud of the quality of our schools and classrooms, we strongly believe that if we work together we can become even better.

SCS improvement efforts are unified around the work of Dr. Phillip Schlechty, and since June 2000 the district has been a member of the Schlechty Center’s Standard Dearer School District Network.  These SBSD school districts across the nation are focused on student engagement as the key to improving student performance and success.  “Working on the Work” that teachers  give to our students--or WOW--is at the center of SBSD school improvement goals.

SBSD school improvement efforts and professional development are implemented through a Design Team of teachers and administrators who set goals for intended results, propose strategies, and check progress.  Members of the Action Team organize and carry out professional development activities, while the Assessment Team members collect data and information for Design Team decision-making related to capacity to change, student performance, and other indicators.
