Dr. Kim A. Thurston has been the Assistant Superintendent of Salem Community Schools since 2003. From 1999 to 2003 he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Manchester Community Schools, North Manchester, Indiana. From 1998 to 1999 Dr. Thurston was a Graduate Assistant at the Indiana University School of Education, Bloomington, Indiana, and from 1991 to 1998 he served as the Superintendent of Schools for Crothersville Community Schools. Dr. Thurston has spent the past 31 years as an administrator and teacher in the Indiana public schools.
Dr. Thurston earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Specialist in Education, and Doctor of Education degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. He is an active member of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, Indiana Association of School Business Officials, and the Rotary Club of Salem, serving as President for 2009-10.
Dr. Thurston’s wife, Kathy, is a third grade teacher at the Margaret R. Brown Elementary School in Seymour Community Schools. They are the parents of a son Christopher (wife Tiffany) and a daughter Tiffany Marie. Christopher teaches Health and Technology at Salem Middle School and Tiffany Marie is a Registered Nurse at Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
As Rotary Club President for 2009-10, Dr. Thurston presents Mrs. Linda Ralston and Mrs. Tracey Cornwell a contribution from Rotary for the Bradie Shrum Elementary School Jump Start Program.
